This is a buyer’s guide written by Battleground — a crisis management software and consulting firm. We have a product in this market. We have a commercial interest in helping you choose it. You should hold that in mind as you read.

What makes this different is the source material. What the market looks like in 2026

The CIR report opens with a clear thesis: risk software is shifting “from systems of record to systems of decision.” That framing, from Fusion’s senior director of product management, captures something real about where the market is heading — and why the platform you choose today matters more than it did five years ago.

Several forces are reshaping the competitive landscape simultaneously. Regulation is the most obvious. The EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act came into force in 2025, directly affecting financial services organisations operating in Europe and accelerating demand for integrated risk and resilience platforms. In the UK, Provision 29 of the updated Corporate Governance Code now requires boards of premium-listed companies to review and report annually on risk management effectiveness. In Australia, APRA CPS 230 raises the bar on operational risk management for the superannuation and financial services sector. These are not compliance checkbox exercises — they require functioning, auditable, tested programmes.

AI is the second major force. Every serious platform in the 2026 market has embedded some form of AI capability. The CIR report notes that AI is now “an expectation” rather than a differentiator.
