Reflections on ASFA 2025: Key Learnings and Industry Conversations

ASFA 2025 has proven to be an energising event, offering a front-row seat to the pulse of the superannuation sector. The Battleground team spent the days reconnecting with longstanding clients, welcoming new faces, and absorbing the mood across the industry, each conversation a valuable reflection on where the sector stands and where it’s heading next.

Cyber Resilience Takes Centre Stage

Throughout the conference, it became clear that cyber is the flavour of the month, again! Discussions with attendees revealed a heightened focus on the need for robust systems to defend against evolving threats. Industry participants shared practical approaches for exercising cyber response plans and integrating proactive risk practices as part of daily operations. The focus went beyond compliance, driving towards maturity and preparedness at every level.

Efficiency and Process Mastery

Another major theme was efficiency, across operations, service-provider engagement, and internal processes. Conversations frequently returned to how funds are improving process understanding and reinforcing strong relationships with providers. There’s recognition that resilience is not only about weathering the storm but also about making every process leaner and smarter, whether times are good or challenging.

Preparing for CPS 230

The introduction of CPS 230 was top of mind for many delegates. As regulatory expectations shift, the dialogue emphasised a need for both strategic preparation and practical implementation. Delegates were keen to share experiences and seek tools that help take the mystery out of CPS 230, transforming it from a compliance task into an opportunity for better risk management and organisational growth.

The Value of Connection and Engagement

Beyond technical topics, the conference reminded everyone of the industry’s collaborative spirit. The great foot traffic at the Battleground booth enabled open sharing, on everything from cyber exercises to process mapping, underlining that the community thrives on learning from each other’s journeys. Interactive moments, like darts games and giveaways, infused the event with energy and built connections that will last well beyond the conference hall.

ASFA 2025 underscored the industry’s readiness for change, embracing cyber resilience, pursuing operational excellence, and preparing for regulatory evolution.
